If you’ve been injured at work in South Australia, Exercise Physiology may be included as part of your recovery and return to work. We see workers with a ReturnToWorkSA (WorkCover) claim at our all abilities rehabilitation facility in Salisbury Plain or at home.
Our exercise physiologists are accredited with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and our occupational therapists are registered with AHPRA. We charge in line with the ReturnToWorkSA fee schedules and invoice your claims agent (EML or Gallagher Bassett) or your self-insured employer directly.
Work injury rehabilitation with Accredited Exercise Physiologists
Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists deliver evidence-based rehabilitation programs for people recovering from workplace injuries, in our private, all abilities gym. We work with clients with shoulder, knee and back injuries all the way through to amputations, brain injuries and wheelchair users.
Your program is built around your injury, your job and your goals, to help you regain strength, mobility and function so you can work towards a safe return to work.
How it works for injured workers
- Talk to your doctor and claims manager. In South Australia you can choose your own provider. Let your claims manager know you’d like to see us.
- We check approval. We confirm with your claims manager or self-insured employer that exercise physiology is approved for your claim before your program starts.
- Initial assessment. We assess your injury, your work tasks and your goals.
- Your program. A graded exercise program in our gym or at home.
- Progress updates. With your consent, we keep your doctor, claims manager and employer informed.
For case managers and employers
Our team is experienced in working with case managers, insurers, employers and treating teams. We support:
- return to work and capacity building
- injury management and functional restoration
- persistent pain and complex presentations
- goal-focused, measurable programs
We provide clear reporting, including exercise physiology management plans and progress reports when requested, and can attend case conferences. Find out how to refer.
Other insurance and workplace funding options
Workplace injury or workers’ compensation insurance
Many workers’ compensation insurers across Australia cover Exercise Physiology as part of a rehabilitation program. Your case manager, doctor or rehab provider can refer you, and we can work directly with them to support your recovery goals.
CTP and Lifetime Support Scheme
We also work with people recovering from motor vehicle injuries under CTP insurance and the Lifetime Support Scheme. We’ll liaise with your insurer or case manager about what’s approved.
Income protection or personal injury insurance
If you hold personal injury or income protection insurance, you may be eligible for funded Exercise Physiology services. We can assist with documentation and liaise with your insurer as needed.
Private health insurance
Most private health funds include Exercise Physiology under extras cover. Check with your provider to see if you’re eligible for rebates.

Frequently asked questions
Can I choose Adelaide Wellbeing Society for my WorkCover rehab?
Yes. Workers in South Australia can choose their own service provider. Let your claims manager know, and we’ll check that exercise physiology is approved for your claim before you start.
Will my WorkCover claim pay for exercise physiology?
Exercise physiology can be paid for under your claim when your claim has been accepted and the treatment is approved by your claims manager or self-insured employer. Supervised gym programs need prior approval from your claims manager, and we can request this for you.
Who is my claims agent?
ReturnToWorkSA claims are managed by EML or Gallagher Bassett, unless your employer is self-insured. If you’re not sure, ReturnToWorkSA’s website has a claims agent lookup, or you can ask your employer.
Do I have to pay anything?
Once your claim is accepted and treatment is approved, we invoice your claims agent or self-insured employer in line with the ReturnToWorkSA fee schedule.
My claim hasn’t been decided yet. Can I still start?
Claims agents generally can’t pay for treatment until a claim is decided, unless they ordered the service. Call us and we’ll talk you through your options.
Can you send reports to my case manager and doctor?
Yes. With your consent, we keep your doctor, claims manager and employer updated on your progress.
Can my sessions be at home?
Yes. We offer sessions at our Salisbury Plain clinic or at home. We’ll talk through the arrangements when you book.
We don’t provide physiotherapy or psychology. We’re happy to work alongside your physiotherapist, psychologist and GP.
